Come and See
Come & See ToP

A fortnight of free events from 8-21 June

We'd love to welcome you to St Nic's and invite you to Come and See what church is really all about. Across the country, more and more people are exploring questions of faith and giving church a go.  Whether you're curious, sceptical, or just looking for connection - you're very welcome. We believe that Jesus is the best news the world has ever seen, and we’d love to share a bit of that with you. All the events below are free, relaxed, and open to everyone. You don’t need to have been to church before — just come along and say hello!

Come to Church!
Sundays, 10-11.15am and 6-7.15pm

We love our church. We're far from perfect, but every Sunday at 10am and 6pm, a wonderfully mixed group of around 250 people (featuring ages 0-101!) gathers together. We come from many different countries and backgrounds. Every week new people visit - you'd be so welcome any time.

On Sundays 14 & 21 June we're hosting services especially suited for newcomers. We'll explain what's going on, and there's no pressure to join in with anything you're not comfortable with - nobody's putting anyone on the spot! Wear whatever you like and there'll be people on the door to welcome you.

Children at church - children are a vital part of our church family (we have more than 50 each Sunday). So we aren't afraid of a little noise, in fact we love the fun and energy they bring with them. On 14 June at our 10am service we will be running groups for children aged 0-14 which newcomers can join if they'd like to. On 21 June there are no groups because we'll all be worshipping together.

The History of St Nicolas Church (with Emma Guilfoyle)
Tuesday 16 June, 7.30pm

Come and See how the building has changed over the years and the different roles it has played in the community. Examine old photos and newspaper reports from way back when. You’ll even get the chance to put your hands on one of the original Norman stones from the earliest church on the site! As well as this we’ll think not only about the past but also what role the church has today in our rapidly changing culture. Light refreshments provided. Free but ticketed.

Drama Workshop (with Lixi Broadfoot)
Thursday 18 June, 7.30-9pm

Join Lixi from The Watermill Theatre for an interactive workshop where we will use drama to explore some of the Bible’s most famous events. We will recreate them in the workshop getting beneath the skin of the characters as we imagine how they might have been thinking and feeling. Although we’ll be using stories from the Bible, you don’t need to know anything about Christianity to participate in fact the fresh eyes of those who are hearing the stories for the first time are often really helpful as we try to imagine what this might have really been like to live through. Light refreshments provided.
All welcome, age 12+ (under 18s need to be accompanied by an adult). Free but ticketed.

Architecture of the Church (with Rick Coward)

Saturday 20 June, 7.30pm
Step inside a thousand years of history and discover how ancient stones can still speak today. Through its arches, windows and carvings the church reveals how generations before us understood beauty, worship, community and the world around them. Rick will guide us beyond the bricks and mortar to uncover the ideas and lives shaped into its very fabric. Why were parts rebuilt or altered? What did earlier generations hope to express through stone, light and design? And what can these ancient spaces still communicate to us now?
Cheese and wine provided. This is event is free but booking essential for refreshment purposes!
